Hightail Software Engineer Interview Questions
& Process

I applied online for the internship in June 2013 and heard back pretty quickly, within a week. The interview process was pretty simple. First, an HR person did a phone screen, then an Engineer from the team called me for another phone screen. A few days after that, they invited me to their main office in Campbell for an on-site interview. I ended up having 5 interviews there. The first one was with the Director of Product, which was mainly about whether I'd fit in with the company, and it was about 15 minutes. Then, I had two technical interviews, each about 30-45 minutes long. They asked some questions about recursion, linked lists, and using for-loops with modulus. The fourth interview was during lunch with an engineer, and it was a good time to ask my own questions and get some real talk about the job. The last meeting was with the Mobile Team Lead, and there weren't any technical questions during that one. Later that same day, they called me to offer me the position. Overall, it was a good experience.

This company is a real gem in Silicon Valley with new and relevant tech. The employees are smart and friendly. It's profitable and management is careful with spending, unlike companies that rely heavily on debt and VC money for advertising. The perks are great, including free drinks and snacks, and the location is nice for families. It's also an engineering-driven company where everyone, including PMs, influences product direction.

I applied online via LinkedIn and a recruiter reached out. Then the recruiter set up a phone interview. After that, there was a Phone Screen where they asked general questions and some technical ones. Then came another Phone Screen with more technical questions. Finally, there was an onsite interview with several engineers I'd be working with, each asking questions for 45 minutes.
