First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Highland Capital.
Investment Associate
The interview process involved a few phone interviews, which started more than 15 minutes after they were scheduled. This was followed by a case study. While the process is generally efficient, they require you to dedicate over 10 hours to a case study before inviting you in. They don't provide clear guidelines beforehand or helpful feedback afterwards, just a standard response once the case study is submitted. The case study requires significant time commitment from your side but is easy for them to set up. If they treat you poorly during the interview process, consider how that might translate to their treatment of you as an employee long-term.

- Can you discuss your understanding of the market?
Investment Analyst
Had two phone interviews. First was with a recruiter, pretty standard stuff about my resume and why I'm interested. Second was with an investment pro, asking some technical questions that weren't too tough. After that was the Superday, met most of the senior investment team, mostly focused on fit. Then, a few of us got invited back for a case study. It involved building a three-statement model using public filings and filling out tearsheets for some companies. It's not super hard, but it takes a really long time, so make sure you plan for it.
- What makes for a strong credit investment?
- Describe your approach to modeling a seasonal investment.
- What are your thoughts on the current state of [x] industry sector?
Investor Relations Analyst
So, to get to Highland, the interview process was pretty long. I first sent in my resume. Then, they called me in for a morning of interviews at the office. I talked with two HR people and two people from the Investor Relations team. After that, I had two phone interviews with IR team members who were traveling. Once I passed all those, they sent me a big case study. Got it Friday at 5 PM, had to turn it in by Monday 8 AM. Seriously, don't underestimate the case study, you'll need the whole weekend. A few days after submitting, I had a call with the team leader to discuss my case study and answer their questions. HR called me a few days later and offered me the job.
- Were you asked questions about the systems and skills mentioned on your resume?
Communications Associate
The HR recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn. After an initial phone call, I was invited for an in-person interview. The process felt quick and efficient. I got to meet the Director of my business unit, two partners, and the CIO and co-founder, which was great visibility. It was 4 in-person interviews, which is understandable for a company of this caliber. After my offer and acceptance, I received a really nice gift basket and felt welcomed right away. Happy with the company.
- What salary expectations do you have?
