First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at High Point University.
Instructor
We had a Zoom interview with 4 faculty members. They were all very nice and asked pretty standard questions. They didn't really dig deep with follow-ups. They were upfront about what it's like to work at a place that focuses on teaching.
- What motivated your application for this role?
Admissions Counselor
The interview process was pretty thorough. It started with a phone screen, then some zoom interviews, and finally an in person meeting with a few team members where I got to tour the campus. It was a really positive experience overall, and the university is beautiful. I'd recommend it to a friend!
- How do you handle managing and prioritizing when you have multiple tasks?
Assistant Professor
I got shortlisted for a 30-minute interview with the Engineering department chair and faculty, which I thought went pretty well. They asked me about my teaching and research background. I thought it was a bit strange that they didn't mention compensation. The next step was an on-campus interview, which was supposed to include a 1.5-hour lecture on coursework and research, plus meetings with the Dean and Provost. I decided to decline this, though, because the lack of pay transparency made it seem like a waste of my time and resources, especially given the travel and preparation involved.
- Can you tell us about your PhD research?
- What's your teaching background?
- Are you able to manage large classes?
Laboratory Technician
The interview was supposed to be 30-45 minutes and business casual attire was required. I was asked about my previous work, availability for weekends and holidays, and then informed about the job and its duties. I met the supervisor for the projects and was given a tour of the offices and the facility. The interview ended up being almost two hours long, so it really depends on how well you connect with the interviewer.
- Can you share how long you have worked with animals?
- Are you comfortable working on holidays and weekends?
- What are you hoping to learn in this role?
