I went through 4 rounds for this analyst position. The interviews were pretty easy overall. One of the interviews involved a case study, and the final round was an in-person interview. However, HGGC seemed very unstructured and unprofessional throughout the process. Even though I made it to the final round, they ghosted me after I traveled to Palo Alto and met the team. Some red flags were that they mentioned work not listed in the job description, there was a clear lack of diversity, and they didn't seem to care about the candidate experience.

HG is a young PE firm, and their recruiting process reflects that. The team is personable and capable, but the process was drawn-out, lacking transparency and communication. I found out about the role through a recruiter and also sent my resume directly to HG. The job was supposed to be filled by Fall 2009, but by Spring 2010, it was still open. I first got a call to set up phone interviews for pre-screening before the in-person interviews. The phone interview stage took over a month, and then another month passed before I heard about the results. After the in-person interviews, things stalled again for over 6 weeks. I was told the decision was delayed due to personnel changes and a revamp of the portfolio manager role. Two months later, still no decision. The position was then re-posted, suggesting the process restarted, but I haven't even been notified that I'm no longer being considered. I had 10 interviews and met several people at the firm, but I was disappointed by the poor communication and lack of transparency, which was surprising given the company culture and the people I met. All interviews were behavioral, and the interviewers were very friendly and seemed to enjoy their jobs and the firm. Overall, I'm disappointed with the recruiting process and hope it improves as the firm grows and the portfolio management team develops.

It was a good process with a couple of rounds and multiple people involved. I talked with a lot of folks, and they were nice people. The interview had a mix of easy and hard questions. It took place in Palo Alto and was a good time with multiple rounds. Overall, it was great.

It was a really nice interview. There were two interviewers, one asking the harder questions and the other being more friendly. They were both nice, but the tougher interviewer kept me on my toes. It was a good experience overall.
