Hermeus Interview Questions
& Process

So the process was kinda weird. They scheduled a video screen without asking me about my availability first, but I was free so it was okay. A few hours after that first video screen, they had me schedule a second video screen. And just a few hours after the second one, they told me to prep a 30-minute presentation. I asked about where to go for it, and they said it was another video interview, even though I was near their office. It was unclear if they were actually watching my presentation or not since they didn't ask many questions. About a week after the presentation, I got a rejection email.

Started with a recruiter phone screen, just a quick check of my resume and basic knowledge. Then, a one-on-one video chat with an engineering lead where we mostly talked about my past experiences and projects, plus some technical questions. Next, I did a virtual presentation to a few people about a project I chose, and they were pretty encouraging. The last stage was onsite, going through several back-to-back meetings with different people, covering technical topics and problem-solving approaches. Nothing felt too difficult.

I'm not sure what Hermeus was looking for. It felt like they deliberately kept things unclear, possibly as a security measure. I don't even know the exact job title I applied for because the posting was just "Propulsion Team Member." I applied based on their website mentioning they sought people with specific skills. After applying, I was contacted by a talent scout. The job posting was very vague, and the scout couldn't give me any concrete details about the job. I asked what someone with my skills might do at Hermeus, why they needed those skills, what a typical day involves, and for an example of a typical duty. The only answer I got was that everyone does a bit of everything. About 8 weeks later, I got a vague email that seemed like a rejection, stating they didn't have a suitable role for me right now.

This is a sloppy company, very startup with little structure. After what was supposed to be the final interview (3 interviews in), I was asked to do another 30 minute “chat” with people who apparently didn’t make it to my 3rd technical interview that was 3 hours long. I reluctantly accepted because it was supposed to be just a 30 minute chat but then was asked in the call to stay longer for yet another technical interview. The three final interviewees were rude and out of the loop that it was supposed to be a chat. I was also promised lunch during the 3rd in person interview over email which ended up being a total lie.
