First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Her Campus Media.
Intern
I applied for 4 fall internships and only heard back from one. The hiring manager was respectful and responded in an appropriate amount of time, but I didn't hear anything from the other three. I submitted a tailored resume and cover letter and would expect at least a rejection email as a professional courtesy. I could see that they viewed one of my applications but still didn't say anything. Unprofessional and left a bad taste in my mouth.
- As an alternative to a first-round interview for an editorial internship, I was required to complete a rather detailed edit test.
Sales Representative
The interview process was pretty straightforward, starting with a phone interview. Although I think I messed up that part with too many filler words, the company seemed kind of snobby and disorganized. My initial interview got pushed back only after I reached out to them because I wasn't sure if I had the right date/time. If I hadn't contacted them, I would've been waiting around for ages. They apologized a bit and rescheduled the phone interview. On the day it was supposed to happen, they actually called me a couple of hours early because the person organizing it mixed up the times (they're on the East Coast). After the interview, I sent a thank-you note as usual and was told I'd hear back soon. Two months later, I got an email saying I didn't get the job. I replied asking for feedback, but got no answer. Honestly, I don't blame the company for how I did in the interview. But interviewing is a two-way street; you need to see yourself at the company too. I don't think I'd enjoy working for an unprofessional and messy startup.
- What are your career aspirations for the next few years?
Marketing Associate
My interview process was cut short after just the first round. They initially scheduled a phone call but then canceled it and rescheduled at the last minute. They said I'd hear back by the end of the week, but I never did. So I followed up, and it's been a week with no response. It felt pretty unprofessional, and I'm not sure I want to work for a company that doesn't follow through on what they say.
- Can you tell me how you found out about this job opening?
Community Management Intern
It was pretty simple and quick. I had a short Google Hangout interview where I was asked some questions. It felt more like a chat, very natural. I answered questions, talked about myself and my background, and got to ask my questions at the end.
- Could you tell me about yourself and how your background aligns with this role?
- In what ways does your experience make you a great fit for this position?
