First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Henrico County, VA.
Planner
The interview process was straightforward and pretty easy. While government websites can sometimes take a bit, the people there were really nice and responsive. The interview itself was moderately challenging and lasted about an hour. I thought they could have asked more about how my experience could benefit them.
- Can you name three ways to enhance planning in Henrico?
Case Manager
I was in a panel interview with about 4-5 supervisors. They asked me some general questions like 'tell us about a time you worked with a team?' and 'where do you see yourself in 5 years?'. The whole interview lasted about 30-40 minutes and it was pretty relaxed. Later, when they made the job offer, they told me they couldn't change the salary from the lowest end of the pay range listed in the job ad, which is way less than I make now. It makes me wonder why they even list a pay range if they can't negotiate.
- Which area of the county do you prefer working in?
Human Services Specialist
I sent in my application by the deadline (2/6/16) and they called me on 2/18/16 to set up an in-person interview for the beginning of the next week. When I got there, I had to wait almost AN HOUR past my scheduled interview time before they came to get me from the waiting area. I was actually about to leave when they called my name. The Asst. Director and a supervisor interviewed me. They asked 10 questions, and most of them had follow-up questions built in. At the end, they told me I needed to turn in an Eval and references. I wish they had told me that when they called me for the interview so I could have been ready. They're having a second round of interviews for the people they select, so now I'm just waiting to hear back.
- Can you share your relevant work experience and educational background that qualifies you for this role?
Human Services Specialist
First you apply online. Then there's a panel interview with two supervisors, plus a hands-on exercise. After that, there's a final interview with the Assistant Director. All questions will be scenario-based; there are 10 listed on a sheet in front of you. If they offer you the job, references are required, including from your current supervisor and your last evaluation. Just a heads up, you'll have to work between two offices and there's a huge caseload that they can barely keep up with, meaning constant overtime.
- Can you share your worst customer service experience?
- What relevant experience and systems have you used for this role?
- What's your experience in determining eligibility for programs?
