First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hennion and Walsh.
Marketing PR Coordinator
My interview process contained 4 interviews over the course of 2.5 months. The questions were pretty straightforward. I met with the HR coordinator and VP Marketing first, then the president, who said he liked me and would like to find a position that suits me. At the fourth interview, Bill Walsh gave me an insultingly low and unofficial salary range, but made it clear it was not a firm job offer. He said I would be notified of any decision by the end of that week. 2 weeks after the 4th interview, I get a rejection letter in the mail saying I was not selected. What did annoy me was the lack of communication, courtesy and professionalism by Hennion & Walsh.

Associate Trainee
I had a really strange interview process. First, the recruiter gave me a tour, reading company and department info from cards. We saw the office, sales area, bar, and trainee center. Then, I watched company commercials for 25 minutes before the interview. The broker was nice and knew a lot, explaining the 18-month program well. They were upfront that the first two months are training for licensing, and the rest is all cold calling for sales. It felt like they weren't too picky. It's odd they have a Wall Street-style setup with a stock ticker but only sell municipal bonds. Ask about the contract before accepting.
- Could you tell me more about the program?
- What can I expect during the program?
- What are the terms of the contract before I accept the role?
Account Executive
I found Hennion & Walsh initially at a career fair; I spoke to the representatives for a little while then made my rounds. About a week later, I got a call to set up an interview in the office. I came in, did my thing and then about another week went by before I got an offering. I was a little skeptical about the position because they have an intimidating contract. If you get licensed and then leave the program early, they have you on the hook for 30k - when I left the firm, they had raised it to 50k. They claim this is for all of the costs to licensing, training and salary. You have to stay with the firm for about three years for the contract to be null and void.

Financial Sales Trainee
It was a one on one interview with the HR person. They looked at my resume and then told me that the job involves facing about 100 rejections a day and asked if I could handle that, mentioning it's the nature of the job. It wasn't very clear what they were looking for, but they were professional.
- Can you handle daily rejection?
