First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Helmer Scientific.
Buyer
They had a panel interview where they met with their potential peers and direct leaders. They were asked questions about their experience relevant to the job, and also some general questions about how they adapt and what motivates them.
- Can you describe a time you experienced a conflict and how you managed it?
Manufacturing Trainee
The interview process started with a phone interview, then a few days later I had an in person interview. The interviewers were nice, and the conversation was relaxed. I was given a skills test (reading instructions/assembly) and a facility tour. I didn't hear back after the interview, and the position had a set start date. I feel candidates should get some kind of follow up after an in person interview, regardless of the outcome. It was very unprofessional. About six months later, I got a generic 'thanks but no thanks, we're looking at other candidates' email, and this was after my in person interview! So unprofessional! How candidates are treated reflects on the company.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
Analyst
I had a recruiter phone call that was pretty chill. Then I went in for a 2-hour onsite interview with the VP of Finance, the sales ops manager, and a marketing director. The finance and marketing folks were easy, more of a chat for about 30 mins each. The sales ops manager's part was tougher, maybe an hour, and she had these 3 printed hypothetical behavioral questions where she took notes. The recruiter met me but didn't see me out after the interview.
- Could you share an instance where you encountered a significant challenge?
- Describe a situation where you had to deal with a challenging coworker.
- Can you recall a time when you experienced a setback or failure?
Marketing
It was a very relaxed interview, no standard behavioral questions. They mainly inquired about my ability to handle the job's responsibilities. I was asked about my comfort level with Microsoft Excel, if I could help with analytical tasks, my previous market research experience, and if I had a writing sample to share.
- Do you know how to use Microsoft Excel?
- Can you help with analytical tasks?
- Have you done market research before?
