Software QA Engineer
Recruiter called for a 30-minute background review. Asked me to talk about myself and my coding skills related to the job posting. After the recruiter, I got an email with a technical screen assignment to be completed within 48 hours. This assignment was very relevant to the day-to-day tasks and wasn't a random CS coding question. Then, the Hiring Manager had a 45-minute to 1-hour interview, focusing on QA-specific questions, technical aspects, behavioral questions, and a review of my coding assignment. The onsite interview lasted 3-4 hours with a typical lineup including the CEO, CTO, Hiring Manager, Sr. Software Engineer, QA Engineer, and HR/Recruiter. It was a pleasant experience with no random questions; all technical questions were relevant to the job profile and daily testing activities. I appreciated that the interviewers, including the CTO and CEO, were very knowledgeable about the job profile and didn't ask irrelevant questions outside the scope of QA/Testing, like designing algorithms or binary search.

Online Marketing Manager
Applied via LinkedIn and was contacted soon after for a phone interview where the role and company were explained. A week later, had an in-person interview with HR and the marketing director, which lasted about two hours. Was asked to send writing samples and complete a two-part marketing exercise. Was then invited for a final interview with the marketing team and the CEO/Founder, which lasted four hours. Received a decline email the next afternoon, stating other candidates more closely aligned with the position's needs. The job was later reposted on LinkedIn and Craigslist.

Product Designer
The whole process had three stages, but I only went through the first two. First was a phone screen with a recruiter. It was pretty good, definitely enjoyed the conversation, however, they were late by about 10 minutes. Next, I had to schedule the second-round and this was a nightmare. I had two different recruiters messaging me about different times. It was really quite annoying. Once I got into the second round interview, I had some good talks with their head of product, but one of their product managers was a super bummer. To say it wasn't a good culture fit is selling my point short here: he was downright depressing to talk with, reminiscent of my first internship. It gave me serious breathe-down-your-neck vibes and it was hard for me to feel enthusiastic. Ultimately they didn't move forward to a third round (on-site) interview, and I'm pretty thankful for it. After learning more about their internal approach to design systems management, I realized it wasn't a good fit. I feel like I dodged a bullet.

Recruiter
I had a 30 min recruiter phone screen. Then I met with her team and her higher-ups, with 30 min chats for each person except the dept head, which was an hour. They all asked me scenario questions where I gave 1 or 2 examples. The recruiter said she'd get back to me Monday but didn't until Wednesday saying she needed team feedback. On Thursday morning, she emailed to say they decided not to move forward because they need someone with a strong record on pushback. I asked for clarification via email and a call, but haven't heard back.
- How would you adjust to a new company culture?
- Can you describe your approach when starting with new managers or in new jobs?
- How do you handle challenging managers?
