Behavioral Technical Coding

This was a 2 stage process. The first stage was a behavioural interview. The second stage was a technical interview. The technical interview involved SQL questions that used window functions, general questions about machine learning, and questions on statistics and probability theory. The SQL questions were the hardest part; prior training would probably help.

The interview process was fast, but when I didn't get the job, they sent a really impersonal automated email that seemed like it was sent right after I applied, basically saying they weren't moving forward with my application, even though I had two interviews. They also mentioned they were hesitant because I didn't have 'direct paid media LinkedIn experience,' which was odd since my resume clearly showed my qualifications, making me wonder why they interviewed me if they were looking for such specific qualifications that I clearly didn't have.

The interview process raised compliance concerns due to potential HR liabilities. Ryan, the president, was inconsistent and interruptive, leading to a poor candidate experience. He expressed worry about global work and my desire to start my own business, despite my stated focus on HR. He also suggested the company shouldn't be a retirement destination but a career stepping stone, which seemed to contradict his concern about me leaving. He asked for my 'input' on an unethical company situation, which felt like an attempt to get free work, and mentioned potential layoffs. His contradictory statements about control ('my way' vs. 'off my plate') and uncertainty about HR's responsibilities were also notable. Given his demeanor and interview style, I decided against pursuing the position and provided incomplete answers to certain questions, advising others to be cautious.

So I had a long interview process, like 3 interviews over 2 weeks. First was with HR, who didn't seem to know much about Amazon and just read from a script. Then I talked to the hiring manager, and they asked some general Amazon questions. The third interview was the one where things got weird. They had me audit an Amazon account, one of their clients, and make a PowerPoint about it. Basically, they wanted me to look at a seller's account and suggest improvements. This felt wrong, honestly, and I should have read the other reviews. I put in a good amount of time on this 'challenge' and presented it to three team members. They seemed impressed, and one even asked for the PowerPoint. Three days later, I got a message saying they were going with other candidates. While that's fine, I felt totally used. They got free, valuable insights into their client's brand and a plan for how to improve it. So, I spent hours over two weeks giving them this info for free. It sounds like this is how they operate, using interviews for free consulting. Seriously, don't interview with them, it's a waste of time.
