First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Heliogen.
Managing Director
It was a multi-phase interview process. First, there was a manager screening, then an HR discussion. After that, a virtual 'on-site' which included a panel interview and 3-4 one-on-one interviews. They do follow-ups as needed if a consensus isn't reached. The panel interview was 60 minutes long and included an introduction, a presentation that was less than 30 minutes, and Q&A for the rest of the time.
- Can you tell me about your technical expertise?
- Can you share some behavioral examples?
- How do you feel about our corporate culture?
Director
I enjoyed preparing a case study to present to the executive level. It was a great chance to showcase my technical accomplishments and discuss my experience in the Automotive and Aerospace Industry. The whole process felt very fair, and I liked the one-on-one chats I had with the team.
- What would you consider your superpower to be?
Senior Buyer
My first interview was a phone screen with the hiring manager. Then I had a phone interview with a purchasing team member. The last part was a presentation about problem solving and 1 on 1s with 5 people, from inside and outside purchasing, including managers. It took a month between the first two interviews and then 3 more weeks to finish everything and get the offer.
- Can you present a problem you solved related to sourcing and commodity strategy?
Software Engineer
This was the worst interview process ever. A quick recruiter call, then a simple coding test, followed by a virtual onsite with four 30-minute interviews back-to-back. It felt rushed and the interviewers dominated. By the time I got to the hiring manager (the last one), I only had 15 minutes to ask questions. The hiring manager's answers made it clear work took priority over family, unlike what others said. So I declined.
- Can you solve a variation of the traveling salesperson problem?
