The recruiter called and set up an interview. After the interview, I had to do a drug screen and some paperwork. Then I waited for the background check and drug screen results. Overall, it was an okay process and a good interview.

I applied online and then it took over two weeks to hear back. I honestly thought I didn't make it. I guess I wasn't a top pick. I was immediately given a Predictive Index Assessment, which I think are bogus. Then I had a phone interview for about 30 minutes. They asked me questions about personality fit, not about my actual skills or experience. The interviewer talked really fast and wasn't very friendly.

They basically only use outside assessments from psych consultants to make decisions. Nobody from HR even identified themselves, calling themselves "Helget Gas" instead. People want to talk to a real person, not a robot. I first did the Predictive Index for personality fit, then had a phone interview which was a standard 30 questions in 30 minutes Gallup interview. I thought it was weird they relied so much on fake science and I never actually talked to anyone from the company about how things work or the culture. They didn't do a real interview with tough questions from someone trained. Gallup interviews are known to pick the wrong people 20-30% of the time, which is about the same error rate as someone untrained doing a structured interview. Any company that uses these for hiring should really think about the legal risks. They can create a bias against certain groups, especially since the interviews are so fast and studies show they have a big error rate. I answered their questions clearly and thoroughly, using my I/O psychology knowledge to explain why they ask what they ask. They asked a lot of managerial questions, which I handled well with examples and psychological reasoning. If you think outside the box, I wouldn't suggest applying because you probably won't be seen as a good cultural fit.

After submitting my application online, I was contacted for an interview about 2-3 weeks later. The interview was in person and I met with both a department manager and the controller. The questions were pretty typical, covering my past jobs, customer service skills, and accounting background. It's important to know that at least one of the interviewers is quite senior, and this can impact future promotion chances. Before the in-person meeting, there was a phone call where I had to answer a series of questions for a personality test. Passing this test was a prerequisite for getting called in for the in-person interview.
