First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Heathrow Airport.
Industrial Placement Student
So, this video interview was one of the tougher ones I've done. It's not like those typical competency questions where you can just ramble about a past project. These questions are situational. For each one, you get a big chunk of text describing a made-up task. Then, you get three or four questions asking how you'd handle it. They want to know how you'd prep, who you'd talk to, what you'd do, and what outcome you'd aim for. So, you can't really use the standard STAR method. You have to focus on the 'Action' and 'Result' parts since they give you the situation and task upfront with a lot of text. I found it pretty stressful. Always break your answer into parts. Don't get stuck too long on one thing you'd do. You can stop answering whenever, but I'd recommend using the full 120 seconds or so. Time flies, so keep it brief.
- How would you handle a given hypothetical situation?
Placement Year
Applied Online with a CV and some situational questions. Then had to do a Pirate Game test. After that, a 5 question Video Interview. Then a Telephone Interview with motivational and situational questions. Then an Assessment Centre. Expect a long wait for a reply, about 2 months, and then you'll have to do a task within 5 days.
- What makes you want to join Heathrow Airport?
Intern
The hiring process took over six months to complete. It began with an application, followed by a psychometric test, and then a video and telephone interview. Finally, there was an assessment day. The assessors seemed to look down on candidates. The case study was quite long, and no real guidance was given beforehand about what the assessment day would entail.
- What would you do if you found an unattended bag on your first day of work?
