First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Heartland Family Service.
Housing Advocate
Heartland will reach out to you and schedule a first interview. If they like you after that, they will either send you to onboarding or a second interview.
- Tell me about a time you were successful.
Clinical Therapist
I emailed my application to the internship supervisor and got a call a few days later for an interview. This interview was at the main office, with two clinical supervisors, and lasted about 30 minutes. Later, I got an email with a clinical supervisor's name and contact info for a program site they thought would fit my interests. Then, I interviewed with therapists at that site to learn more about the program and the clinical experiences I could get. They called me back about 2 days after that. The whole process took about two weeks.
- Can you describe your approach to change and healing?
- What kind of setting do you prefer for therapy (e.g., residential, outpatient, group, individual)?
- What populations are you interested in working with (e.g., specific age groups, therapeutic issues)?
Financial Analyst
The interview process included an initial online panel interview with three members from the Finance Department. Following that, there was an onsite interview with a larger group of five people, including the Finance Department, the VP of Human Resources, and the VP of Behavior Services. In between these interviews, I completed a one-hour assessment to analyze an income statement. In total, I attended two interviews, spending over 2.5 hours, plus the one-hour assessment. Even though I wasn't expecting an offer right away, I haven't heard anything back since the second interview about my application status.
- How do you approach communicating financial information to leaders with varying levels of financial expertise?
- Tell me about your approach to employee self-care.
- Please assess this income statement and provide feedback, focusing on the variance analysis compared to the budget.
Supportive Housing Specialist
The interview process was pretty relaxed and focused on understanding trauma-informed care. They wanted to gauge my educational background and understanding of human behavior. We also talked about what Heartland offers in their housing division and the importance of setting boundaries when giving service. Safety was another key topic, as it's essential when providing services.
- Did you have any knowledge about trauma-informed care and its use with this population?
- What did Heartland provide in the housing division?
- How do you identify boundaries when providing service?
