Behavioral Technical Presentation Case

I had 4 rounds of interviews with two Sales Directors, the VP of Enterprise Sales, and the Head of Talent. Heap focused on 3 main areas: cultural fit (growth mindset, integrity, curiosity), your sales track record, and your motivation for joining Heap. The first two interviews were mainly about sales processes, past successes and failures, your thinking, and cultural fit. The third interview was a one-hour "challenge" involving prioritizing accounts, choosing personas and crafting messaging, and a discovery roleplay. During the challenge, make sure to explain your reasoning for account selection and messaging. The company website has a lot of good info about the product and its value.

Got contacted by a recruiter who then connected me to the hiring manager for a chat. After we both felt there was a good fit, they were cool with me interviewing with some of my potential future teammates. Part of the process included a presentation where I had to pitch Heap back to some senior management. It was a pretty big task to get up to speed on the tech and build out a sales pitch from scratch. I also had to create a deck from scratch, which felt a bit much. Since I didn't get to see a demo beforehand, I had a lot of questions that came up later on.

I actually liked the interview process and understood it. The 3rd stage interview was a bit long at 1.5 hours though, and I wasn't sure why it needed to be that long. Having 6 people on the call also didn't seem to make much sense. What I didn't really get was that after all that, if you're not successful, you only get a generic email saying you won't progress. It would be fairer to give candidates a bit more information. Also, with 6 men on the interview panel, they could have made more of an effort to show diversity.

  • Stage 2 involved a 1.5-hour presentation to six interviewers.
