The hiring process was really drawn out, spanning from August to late November. Despite initial claims of moving quickly, there were significant delays in communication, requiring me to follow up multiple times. The process included a phone interview, a video interview with the hiring manager, a video interview with the whole team, submitting a portfolio of writing samples, and completing a writing assignment. After these stages, I was told I was one of two finalists. Weeks passed with no update, and after more follow-ups, I was informed I didn't get the role but that a second position might open up depending on budget by the end of 2022 or early 2023. The hiring manager indicated I was the preferred candidate for this potential second role, but without a formal offer or timeline. When asked about the decision factors, she was vague. She mentioned she'd have more timeline information in a week, but after another two weeks, I learned through LinkedIn that the second position was no longer certain and would depend on team needs mid-2023. I was advised to keep them in mind. This entire experience, over three months of my time and effort including unpaid work, was unprofessional.

The interviewer seemed to have forgotten about my scheduled appointment and appeared irritated to have to interview me. They were dismissive throughout. I had gone through significant effort to rearrange my schedule to be available for this interview, and being treated with such disregard was unprofessional and made me feel negatively about the company.
