I interviewed at Headlands for the role of a quantitative researcher. The interview started with introductions, but it felt rushed. The interviewer seemed more interested in how I solved a specific options problem at my previous job than my candidacy, which felt like a knowledge grab. I suspected they weren't interested, so I asked about the next steps. The interviewer seemed unprepared, and as expected, my recruiter later told me they weren't proceeding with my application.

They start with general background questions about your resume. All the interviewers are smart and will ask technical follow-ups to any project you've done, so be prepared and try not to cap. The technical questions are pretty much straight from ESL, so I recommend reading through that.

This was a really bad experience. They seemed to be interviewing only to steal your trading strategies. Don't share any strategy details or PnL info and push them to ask actual interview questions. If they refuse to ask real questions, they weren't serious about hiring you anyway. Other companies don't operate like this, so you don't have to tolerate this kind of behavior.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Could you describe your methodology for signal research?
  • What has been your Profit and Loss (PnL)?
  • How would you go about increasing profitability?
