Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Head Injury Association.
Benefits Coordinator
They had me fill out an excessive amount of personal information before even getting close to an offer. It took about 30 minutes to complete confidential forms, and then I waited around for about 15 minutes. After that, the HR Manager and another HR person I didn't recognize walked me to a room that felt like a classroom. They asked me really basic questions, and it seemed like they weren't genuinely interested in the interview, more like a formality before giving the job to an internal candidate. I'm pretty sure that's what happened since I never got an update, and it's now August and the interview was in April. It felt like a total waste of time for everyone involved.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What makes you want to work for this company?
Medicaid Service Coordinator
I applied online and got a call back after 2-3 days. When I went in, there was a long application to fill out. The program director interviewed me, and it was a quick and comfortable chat. HR called two days later with an offer, but the salary was 3k less than advertised, and they wouldn't negotiate despite my qualifications. I had to go back for about 3 hours of more paperwork, including listing all my addresses since 1987 and providing my HS diploma, which was a first. Then, I had to go for a drug test nearby and return to the facility. They directed me to Kings Park for fingerprinting for a background check, and I could go home after that. Before leaving, they scheduled 2-3 days of training for the following week.
- Have you previously worked with individuals who have experienced head injuries?
- What is your experience with the head injury population?
Applied Behavior Specialist
I had a 9am appointment and did not leave the building until 12:15. I was not aware there would be multiple meetings and was not prepared to spend my whole day on-site. They ask you to complete an application first, which was lengthy. First you meet with the HR manager who is very nice, then the OOP and then the Supervisor. I notified the office that I needed to be on the road by 12:15 and he last interviewer arrived at 12:10, so needless to say that meeting had little content. I'm pretty sure they did not plan on having me meet with everyone because the last two people hadn't reviewed my resume and it seemed very last minute.
