First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HCLTech.
Test Engineer
At HCLTech, the hiring path for new grads is pretty straightforward, usually three steps. First up, there's an online test covering general aptitude and basic subject knowledge. After that, you'll have a technical interview to check your coding abilities or how well you know the subject. Lastly, it's the HR chat to sort out how you communicate, what your career plans are, and what salary you're looking for, and then they'll make an offer.
- Could you explain the Oops concept in java?
Software Test Engineer
I went through three interview rounds: technical, manager, and HR. After the manager round, I was told I'd get an HR call, which I did. The HR call involved some personal details and salary discussion. I stated my salary expectations were in line with company norms, without making specific demands. They offered a 40% hike plus variable pay. They mentioned an offer letter would be sent within the week. I received an email for document submission, which I completed and was waiting for the offer. Meanwhile, I got a technical interview call from HCL. I asked the HR about it, and she advised me to reject the HCL interview because of the ongoing offer process. I waited for about three weeks. I emailed them for an update, and they said there was no update on the offer letter. After another three weeks, I emailed again and received a reply stating they couldn't move forward with my profile for a specific account due to budget constraints. They suggested I could take the HCL interview and that they would update me on future opportunities, apologizing for the inconvenience. My main issue is that salary discussions should happen earlier, before interviews, if it's a deciding factor. This wasted two months of my time. It's not right to conduct interviews just for show and then reject someone for another candidate who accepts lower pay. Candidates are not options. This was my worst experience.
- What technical questions related to the project were asked?
Test Development Engineer
This was for a full-time Test Development Engineer role in Folsom, California. The interview process involved an HR interview followed by a technical panel interview. They're looking for someone who knows Python and Linux, and can debug and troubleshoot. The whole thing went by pretty fast and smooth. I got an offer but turned it down because the salary wasn't quite what I was hoping for.

- Explain the syntax and structure of OOP programs, and write a sample program.
