First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HCL.
Software Engineer
The interview process started with an online assessment that included aptitude and reasoning rounds. Following that, there were two interview rounds where they asked basic oops Java questions, SQL, and discussed my projects. Finally, there was an HR discussion. After completing all these steps, the offer letter was extended.
- Can you explain Java 8 features and provide examples of object-oriented programming language concepts?
- Tell me about Java 8 features and give examples of oops concepts.
Senior Software Engineer
First, they'll look at your resume and cover letter to see if you're a good fit for the basic requirements. Then, a recruiter will call you to chat about your experience, what you're looking for salary-wise, when you can start, and why you want the job. After that, you'll probably have some technical interviews where they'll ask you questions or give you tasks related to the role, like coding, case studies, or system design stuff. The hiring manager will then want to talk about how you handle teamwork, projects, problems, and real situations. Finally, HR will connect with you to sort out the offer details like pay, start date, and perks. Sometimes, especially for client-facing roles, there might be an extra chat with the client or leadership.
- Can you introduce yourself?
Software Engineer
The interview was easy, lots of OOP, springboot, java and fundamentals. The process was terrible. I did 1 interview and they told me I did well, we were waiting for the date for the next interview and then HR told me the team was taking too long to answer and that they were going to move me to another process with another team, I had to do a technical interview again and they also told me I did well. HR stopped responding to me for 1 week after that, and when they finally did it was to tell me that they had received the order to prioritize senior vacancies for the rest of the year so my process would be frozen. Such a lack of seriousness and professionalism.
- Could you explain what Object-Oriented Programming is?
- What is inheritance in OOP?
- What is polymorphism?
