Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HCL.
Business Manager
It was a painful interview process, it felt like they were more interested in gathering information from me than actually getting to know me. They asked less about me personally and more about how my current company managed its business operations.
- Can you tell me about your current targets or KPIs?
Change Manager
The interview itself wasn't that tough, but afterwards the HR really low-balled me, which was super disappointing. They talked about one thing, but then offered something else entirely. I have 17 years of experience and was initially promised an E3.2 band, which is actually on the lower side for my experience level. Then, in the actual offer, they put me in E3. I even checked with 10 different people who currently work at HCL, and it turns out HR didn't disclose a lot of important details. Six current employees confirmed to me that I was definitely eligible for the E4 band, but that's not what was offered. The salary was also really, really low, with no adjustment for market rates, simply because my current salary is low. It's a shame and a big reason why people leave the country, even when clients are offering better. This is just how things are in India.
- Can you discuss all aspects of change management relevant to this role?
- What was the specific role and position you were being interviewed for?
Associate Manager
Interview process is good and thorough. Overall experience is good. The interview was preceded by a group discussion where 20% of candidates were considered. Those who were not in a rush to just talk something or dominating others were not selected. Be selective in what you speak. Be a good listener as well.
- Given a case study, solve it within 20 minutes.
- React to the given situations.
