Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HCL.
Engineer
The first interview was with a coordinator who said it was a coordination role and all technical work would be done in India. The second interviewer was really rude and unprofessional, kept talking about being an 'expert' and asking me to rate myself from 1 to 10. Honestly, what's the point of subjective questions like that? This company seems to want to hire people for free, without paying them what they deserve. They also post fake and misleading job ads that don't match the actual job spec. If the role is just coordination, why list so many technical skills that aren't even needed? Their hiring and recruitment practices are unethical.
- Tell me about your expertise and rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10.
Lead Engineer
I went for a Walk-in interview in Hyderabad at Hi-tech city. It was a 3-round process: Tech-1, Tech-2, and HR. Tech-1 involved discussing my past projects, the algorithms I used, and OOPS concepts like polymorphism, abstraction, virtual, static, friend, and exception handling, along with some logical C programming questions. Tech-2 was a high-level discussion about projects, focusing on design choices and why certain methods were preferred over others, along with OOPS concepts and logical C programming.
- Can you tell me about your projects and any logical programs you've written, such as factorial?
- Could you explain dynamic memory allocations using both new and malloc?
- What are function pointers?
NOC Engineer
The client round with HCL was pretty tough for their recruitment process. My client round wasn't too easy. The competition here isn't usually super high, but you'll face some skilled applicants. So, it often comes down to selling your skills and knowledge to the recruiters. This is what decides the winner.
- Can you explain the OSI Model?
- Are you capable of working in a hectic environment?
