Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HCL.
Consultant
I was hired as a college hire. After graduating, I went through campus selections. I haven't been assigned specific job roles yet, and I'm currently undergoing training in various technologies. I'm based in Chennai right now, but I'll be relocated based on project pursuits, location, and the technologies involved in the project.
- What is something you've never told an interviewer before?
Senior Consultant
The interviewers were good and technically sound, and the process was transparent. Sometimes the process is late, but they finally get back to you. It starts with a technical round, followed by a second technical round, and the third round is with HR.
- What are your PL/SQL skills?
- Can you explain performance tuning concepts?
Senior Consultant
The interview process was easy and went smoothly, but the organization felt unvisioned and unplanned. After completing HR formalities, I was told the negotiation and offer letter would be emailed after the call. Since it was the weekend, I expected communication the following week. However, it took a couple of weeks before I contacted the recruitment team. They informed me they had over 2000 senior people on the bench and were looking for a project to map me to, promising an offer letter and joining date upon finding one. There was no communication from HCL for another two weeks. I then reached out again, mentioning my notice period was ending and I had another offer. Following this, they scheduled an interview with a local manager who asked some basic technical questions. After my notice period ended, I emailed the HR team and received a reply stating that openings were on hold due to project issues and they couldn't provide an update until they had more information. Fortunately, I had another offer at that time and moved on.
