Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hays.

It was a gladiator style fight to death where you are paired against others to either come out victorious with a crappy offer or just get booted. They do a good job of hyping you through the process, which end to end can take up to 8 rounds.
- Why do you want this job?
Consultant
It was a really structured interview process! It felt more like a simulation of real-life scenarios, showing how you'd act when either recruiting a candidate or dealing with a client. Honestly, it was pretty fun and definitely eye-opening. It wasn't the typical 'why do you want this job' kind of interview, but more about how quickly you can think on your feet.
- Can you give us a brief overview of your background?
- What experience do you have from your previous roles?
- Could you share where you are from?
Senior Consultant
It was a 3-interview process. First was with an internal recruiter. Then there was an assessment centre which included group activities and role plays to see how you'd act in certain situations. The last interview was in the office with the department heads and teams who were interested in you. It was a tough interview process overall, but they were really open and gave feedback at every stage. The last two interviews were both 2 hours long, so it was a big time commitment. The final interview was mostly about checking if you'd fit the team that was hiring, and they also reviewed your CV and asked questions about it.
- Can you tell me what you know about the job of a recruitment consultant?
- What makes you want to work for Hays?
- What are your reasons for pursuing a career in recruitment consulting?
