First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hawthorne Residential Partners.
Regional Manager
Submitted online application, which was straightforward. Spoke with HR for an initial screening. Then had a screening with upper management. The next step was an in-person meeting with an existing regional manager. After that, communication from Hawthorn completely stopped, and I was ghosted.
- Can you describe how you approach budget creation, referencing your experience with other organizations?
Vice President
The interview process was a bit disorganized; one day things seemed great, the next it was unclear. Everyone I met, especially the executive leadership, was first-class and impressive. You'll probably do the PXT Select assessment, which uses AI, but just be honest and it's fine. If you pass that, there's a face-to-face interview. I met with the CFO, SVP, and President, plus the founding partner for a few minutes. They're all really nice and welcoming, very professional, and have handled rapid growth well. The interviews were on a Wednesday, and I got an offer the next day. There were some communication hiccups, but it didn't affect me. The offer's financial terms were generous. They wanted a start date I couldn't commit to without compromising my current role. I suspect their benefits, like health insurance effective dates, 401k, and leave, are quite rigid. After the offer, I essentially declined by asking for unacceptable terms, so the offer was rescinded. No big deal. It's a great company with great people, and I'd recommend it. A Type A personality might find leadership challenging there. If you really want the job, show enthusiasm and communicate well. I had some personal doubts that made my responses a bit late and not well-received, which might have been intentional. Overall, it's a great opportunity.
- Regarding the PXT personality assessment, what are your thoughts on questions about being outside the optimal response, and why is a middle-of-the-road answer generally considered best?
Community Manager
The interview was a bit over 30 minutes. I spoke with a current community manager and the regional manager. It seemed to go okay, and I asked about the next steps. They mentioned they'd have a decision within about a week and would update me either way. Unfortunately, I never heard back, even after sending two follow-up emails and making a call, with a week between each attempt. I wouldn't have such a negative impression of the company if someone had simply bothered to call or email back to say they decided to go with someone else. I'd avoid companies like this.
- Could you please go over your experience as detailed on your resume?
Maintenance Supervisor
I submitted my resume after hearing about the job opening by word of mouth. Then a Regional Maintenance Manager contacted me and asked me questions about my previous experience as a Maintenance Manager. After that, I was contacted by a Community Manager at the location where I would possibly work. I interviewed with the CM. I submitted a drug test and agreed to a background check. We negotiated a salary, and then I started working.
