First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Harvey Building Products.
Business Analyst
I went through a couple of in-person interviews. The first one went great. Then I had a second in-person interview, after which they mentioned they'd get back to candidates in a couple of weeks. I never heard back with any kind of answer. It was pretty shocking after putting in all the effort to interview in person that the company didn't have the basic decency or respect to at least let candidates know. I didn't even get a response after calling to check on the status.
- Could you tell me about one of your weaknesses?
Inside Sales Representative
I applied online and got a call the next day. Then I met with the sales manager. He thought it would be good for me to interview with the regional manager. They were clear about the next steps: after a background and reference check and drug screen, I might get an offer.
- What aspects of your present job do you find appealing, and what do you find unappealing?
- Could you share some information about yourself that isn't detailed on your resume?
- What prompts your current job search, and what's motivating your desire to depart from your existing position?
Manufacturing Engineer
Applied online. Had a phone interview and then a two-step on-site interview. Spoke with the engineering manager, then the plant manager, and finally a second plant manager. It was a standard, straightforward interview with basic questions. They also gave me a plant tour. Communication was great. I'm so tired of online job searching and HR people hiding behind their emails, but that wasn't the case here. They gave me contact info and kept me updated. The HR person even called me on my way home. Too bad the company is in financial trouble.
- Can you tell me about your background?
- Are you interested in performing various job duties?
Manager
The process started with a phone chat with HR. Then I had a long first face-to-face interview where the director asked a lot of good questions and seemed genuinely interested in my cultural fit and how I'd grow. The last part was a half-day with six people in one-on-one meetings. Everyone I met was friendly, open, and really honest about working at Harvey.
- I didn't think any of the questions were hard.
