First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hartford Steam Boiler.
Data Scientist Intern
The interview process included a 30-minute behavioral interview focusing on your resume and past experiences. Following that, there was a 45-minute interview with the data science team where you'd present a project you've completed, with 30 minutes allocated for the presentation and a 15-minute Q&A session.
- What were your key takeaways from your previous internship?
Intern
The interview process was pretty straightforward after we finished the initial emails. I spoke with two people from the hiring team and one person from the team I might join. It felt very professional, and I felt comfortable during the interview. Even though there was some pressure, it was a good experience overall.

Customer Insights and Market Researcher
I was referred and interviewed for the Sr. Customer Insights and Market Researcher role. I liked the people I spoke with, but the process was disorganized and dysfunctional. Initially, everyone was communicative and transparent, but they became unresponsive by the end, sadly typical for this job market. The hiring manager and recruiter were out of office simultaneously, causing miscommunication and a second recruiter to join who seemed unaware of the scheduled interviews. I was contacted by both the hiring manager and recruiters to schedule interviews, sometimes for already scheduled ones, causing confusion. Communication occurred through various channels (LinkedIn, text, email), adding to the confusion. One interview's format changed from two 30-minute sessions to one 60-minute session. When I joined, they mentioned needing to leave early, shortening the 60-minute interview. While I'm flexible, I expect the same courtesy. If you can't commit to the scheduled time and give your full attention, why agree to it? This felt rude and inconsiderate. I submitted work samples but never got confirmation of receipt, making me worry they weren't received or were blocked. A week after my interview, I received a series of questions with no context (purpose, relation to work samples, deadline). I confirmed receipt and gave a timeframe for answers, as they couldn't provide one. After sending answers, I again received no confirmation. A quick email confirmation is minimal effort and speaks volumes. Two more weeks passed without updates, partly due to OOO staff, so I followed up with the hiring manager, who said I'd get an update the following week. Another week passed without an update, so I followed up again with the hiring manager and team. Only then did a recruiter inform me of my rejection, followed by an automated rejection email. If this is how they treat potential employees, I dread to think what it's like to work there. My impression is this team is chaotic, possibly due to last-minute requests or accommodating others. While I understand this might explain the discombobulated experience, it's not an adequate excuse. They should improve.
- What is your perspective on the role of AI?
Summer Analyst
The interview process included a recruiter call, a phone screen, and a technical screen. The questions asked were "What do you like best about working here?", "How would you describe your ideal candidate for this position?", "What about this position is the most important?", "How would you measure my success and what could I do to succeed in your expectations?", "Which part of the position has the steepest learning curve? What can I do in order to get up to speed quickly?", and "What opportunities will I have to learn and grow?" Additionally, the question "What do you like best about working here?" was asked.
