Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HARMAN.
Intern
First round was a 30-minute phone interview. The interviewer gave a brief overview of the company and the position, then asked mostly behavioral questions with some technical discussion about past projects. They inquired about my experience with Java and C/C++. I was asked about my availability and if I was interested in a Spring intern position in addition to a Summer one. I am currently awaiting confirmation for a potential second interview.
- Could you summarize your profile in three words?
Intern
I had an employee referral and also applied online. About a week or two after, I received an email to schedule a phone screening. The phone screening was alright, they went through my resume and asked mostly behavioral questions. A few days later, I got an email asking if I could come in for an in-person interview. On the day of the in-person, I met with the hiring manager for 15-20 minutes and answered more fit questions. Then, I had a one-on-one with the Executive Vice President of Operational Excellence (this is a title HARMAN created, and this division now includes Internal Audit, M&A, and IT). In that interview, they asked questions about which division I preferred and why I was a good fit for it (I interviewed for M&A). About a week later, the hiring manager called to extend an offer.
- What makes you want to work in M&A?
Intern
It was a total of 3 rounds. There were 2 technical rounds and 1 HR round. The technical rounds had basic questions based on the programming language I know, like writing simple programs with strings and recursion. There were also some electronics basics questions. The HR round was more general, asking about family background etc.
- Could you write a C program to reverse a string?
- What is the difference between a Structure and a Union?
