The whole thing took about a month. I got an email from a recruiter two days after applying. First, there was a phone screen with HR. Then, a Zoom interview with the hiring manager. After that, a virtual on-site with different team members, which included presentations and a chat with the hiring manager. The last step was supposed to be a final interview with the Director of the department, but I didn't get that far. Scheduling was super easy, and everyone I talked to was really nice and professional.

So many interviews. Given that the job market is terrible, I am not surprised companies are making candidates jump through hoops and Handshake is no exception. Every time I thought I was done, there was another interview, another presentation, another panel. In a better market, I cannot imagine asking so much of candidates. It was really disheartening and made me less and less interested in the role as the goalpost kept moving.

The interview process was way too long with an excessive number of people to meet. It dragged on for two months, and I was told this wasn't even their longest cycle. I had to constantly chase the recruiter for updates. I really think the Talent team should review their interview cycles and consider if the C-Suite really needs to be the bottleneck for a candidate closing. I can't imagine having to backfill a role with a process as long as the one I went through.
