It was a pretty typical retail interview. They asked me about my past retail work, times I dealt with tough situations, and what my favorite books or media are. If you've worked retail before, it wasn't a super hard interview. It was really quick, maybe about 20 minutes total.

It was easy and straight to the point, very casual. They led me to their back room office for what felt more like a chat than an interview. Management was really nice, and we had a good number of laughs. They asked about my favorite books and if I had a specific area of expertise.

I interviewed for the Plano, McKinney, and Dallas-Preston locations and got an offer for Dallas, but not the other two. For Plano, I interviewed with the assistant manager, who was very nice and asked about my interests and retail experience. It was an easy interview, but he warned me he might not call back if they found someone else, and he was right, I never heard back. The McKinney interview started fine but ended poorly. The manager is nice, but she challenged me on some customer service answers, so have good stories ready. She also tested my alphabetizing skills, which was harder than I expected and put me on the spot. I messed up the rest of the interview, and the vibe got tense. My fault, but be ready for a tough interview there. Dallas-Preston was as smooth as Plano, but they focused more on my experience than interests. It was the easiest interview, and the managers were easy to talk to. This location seemed busier, but no red flags. I got an offer and accepted!

The hiring manager was professional but kept things laid back. The whole interview was pretty relaxed, more of a conversation to get to know me. It was about an hour long, just standard questions you'd expect for a bookstore job. They started by explaining the role and then asked me questions.
