You might start with a quick call from a recruiter or someone on the team to see if you're interested, if you have the right experience, and if you'd fit in. They'll probably ask about your past Android projects, what tech you know, and what tools you've used. After that, you'll probably have one or more technical interviews.

So the recruiter hit me up and told me the spot I applied for was taken, so she set me up with an interview at the closest HC that was hiring. This place was in Brandon, which is about a 45-minute drive away. I was like, 'sure, I'll go for it.' I showed up for my 10 am meet and greet, but I had to wait like 30 minutes for her to finish with a client. Then she started questioning me about the interview being scheduled for 9:30. I showed her my email saying 10, and she checked her calendar and realized it was indeed 10. So we just chatted and got to know each other. She then set me up for a technical interview the next week where I needed to bring two models. I went, did my thing, and they even complimented my haircuts and foils. They said they'd call me, but never did. I really think they had already decided not to hire me before I even got there because they were whispering and the manager barely talked to me. It was a super rude and unprofessional situation. But hey, one door closes, another opens. I ended up getting a job at a nicer salon in Tampa and I love it. These lower-end chain salons have clients who don't respect you because you work there, and managers don't care about the staff. There's such a hierarchy that stylists just focus on getting into management instead of improving their skills.

The only hiccup in scheduling my salon interview was getting my background checks sorted for PA, which covers the last 5 years of residency. Anyway, I had a meet-and-greet with the salon leader on Wednesday evening. She then set up my practical for the following Friday morning, and I got the offer! I'm starting next week. The Salon Leader was really nice, friendly, and welcoming, making me feel like part of the team and family right away, even though it was just an interview. I met the staff, and we went over policies, which they surprisingly made fun despite being a bit dry.

I had the choice of bringing two models or a mannequin head. Since I had just relocated and didn't have models, I bought a mannequin head, spending about $100 on supplies for the technical part. The technical involved a timed layered cut, a 4-quadrant chemical test for virgin color retouch, weave highlights, slice highlights, and a men's cut. However, the manager said they wouldn't time it or watch. They cut the chemical and men's cut short because the manager was hungry. Afterward, I had a formal interview where they asked more about my experience and explained the type of stylist they were seeking and salon specifics. I felt confident in the communication and thought things were on track. They said I'd get a call the next day, but they never did and avoided my later attempts to communicate. The whole process took 4 hours and cost $100 in supplies. It would have been nice to get a formal rejection and explanation.
