Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hachette Book Group.
Marketing Intern
I applied online and then an HR person reached out for a quick phone screening. After that, I had a longer interview with the HR person. Then I interviewed with the supervisor I'd be working under, and finally with a more senior supervisor.
- Can you tell me about your past experience?
- Are you familiar with [imprint name]'s titles?
- What makes you want this job?
Marketing Intern
I applied online and about two weeks later, I got an email asking about my availability for an interview. A few days after that, I had an interview with a panel of people since this role reports to multiple supervisors. It felt more like a conversation than a formal interview. They asked me just two questions and mostly talked about their departments and what they'd expect from me.
- Why are you interested in Hachette?
- What is your ideal career?
Marketing Intern
The interview process had three stages: first a phone call, then two video calls. The first video call was with the hiring manager and the second with the director of the department. The first two interviews were pretty simple, but the last one got into more technical questions.
- What is your motivation for seeking employment with our company?
