First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at H.W. Kaufman Group.
Marketing Specialist
I had a phone interview with HR first for a screening. Then I met with hiring managers in person. After that, I met with senior leadership on Zoom. Finally, I met with the senior head of the department over the phone.
- How have you handled difficult coworker situations in the past?
Administrative Assistant
I had two interviews with two different people, and the recruiter joined both. The first person asked standard interview questions, and then the second person asked pretty much the exact same ones. It felt like a lot of questions for a receptionist job, especially since the second interviewer was kind of rude and really went through my whole resume. They spent about five minutes drilling me on a small scholarship I got, almost like they thought I was lying. It's weird because, from my experience, employers usually don't scrutinize a new grad's resume that much. They went through my entire work history, asking like three or four questions for each job I've had. Like I said, the questions really didn't seem to fit the job at all.
- Tell me about a time when you had to adjust your methods in a previous job and what those adjustments were.
- Describe a situation where you had to change your approach in a past role and how you went about it.
- Can you share an example of when you had to modify your usual way of doing things at a previous job and what changes you implemented?
Intern
The interview process was pretty standard. It started with a phone interview, then a face-to-face panel interview. After that, I had phone calls with the CFO and the head of HR. They mentioned offers would go out in two business days. I never got an offer or even a rejection. I tried reaching out multiple times to find out what was going on, leaving voicemails and emailing the HR rep I'd been working with, but got no response. It's disappointing how unprofessional they were, at least a rejection letter would have been appropriate.
- What are your expectations from us as an employer?
- What is your single greatest strength?
- What is your biggest weakness?
Technical Project Manager
The hiring process was quite lengthy and involved several calls and in-person meetings with different HR and management staff. The final stage was a one-on-one meeting with the owner, Alan Jay Kaufman. Although I scheduled it to arrive early, Alan was 45 minutes late for our 4:30 PM meeting. I waited in a conference room. The meeting itself was mostly Alan talking about the company and the type of "A player" he looks for, someone with drive and grit. He also criticized my resume without letting me respond. The interview concluded with his standard request for all new hires at HQ: a letter explaining why he should hire me.
- Write a letter explaining why I should hire you.
