First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gusto.
Product Manager
The interview process was pretty good overall. Communication with the recruiter was solid. There were some internal changes happening, but they kept me informed. They were also flexible with scheduling, which was nice considering there were about 10 hours of interviews total. It felt like a lot of interviews, very thorough, but I didn't mind it too much because it gave them data to evaluate me and me a chance to evaluate Gusto. However, I do think 6 hours for the final round was excessive, especially doing it all online.

Principal Product Manager
The interview with the recruiter felt like an interrogation. She was mostly silent, only asking a few questions from the hiring manager and then wrapping up with authorization and compensation. She didn't give me time for my questions, but said we could have another call for that if needed. The interview process seems really long: first a meeting with the hiring manager, then meeting 6 other people for 45-60 minutes each. The recruiter called this second part 'it's actually one more step and that's it', which is misleading since a full day of interviews is more than 'that's it'. The recruiter made some out-of-touch and dismissive comments about the $5-10k signup bonus, saying 'when you take taxes out, the money it'd take me to write the email about it costs more' and 'it's pocket money to buy coffee with'. This felt like typical Bay Area smugness, especially since that bonus might be her monthly salary.
- Do you have experience with any payment licenses?
Product Manager
So I did this long interview process for a Product Manager role at Gusto. It started with a screening, then a big panel interview with 4 people that lasted about 4 hours and I prepped for like 8-9 days. They seemed to like me, but then they told me they gave the job to someone internal. I still talked to the hiring manager about other jobs, but then I got ghosted and later rejected for other roles. It’s annoying to prep so much for this and then get rejected last minute and then ignored. Just a heads up, this might happen to you too.
