Manager
This hiring process was really disorganized, rushed, and confusing. Two interviewers and the hiring manager changed last minute, like an hour before the interview, even though I'd talked to a different hiring manager before. So I'd be reporting to someone else with a different title, which was weird. They were also surprised I didn't know something they told me not to worry about before, saying they really wanted me for other reasons. Another interview got cancelled 30 minutes before, and then I got an email at 4 am asking if I could talk at 11 am that same day. It was pretty wild, but I agreed to finish up. Like other reviews say, they make you do 5+ hours of interviews, tell you you're doing great, and then reject you with a generic email. They shouldn't waste that much time and cause so much chaos if you're not a top choice. The people were really nice though, and the product seemed cool, I just wish I'd known what to expect.
- Can you describe how you will support your team, using Gusto-specific terminology?
- How would you go about setting OKRs for this position?
Workforce Management
The process was pretty straightforward. I was initially contacted via LinkedIn and was really impressed by Gusto's mission and future objectives. I went through several interview rounds to ensure it was a good fit on both sides. They gave me some mock data to analyze and propose solutions. The final interviews were in-person at their office. It was by far the best recruiting experience I've had, very friendly, not pushy, and genuinely focused on what's best for the company and for me.
- They asked about my career aspirations and how I envisioned contributing to our customers and team.
- They inquired about my goals and how I could positively impact both customers and the team.
Manager
The interview process was really thorough and actually pretty nice until the very end. Over six weeks, I had a recruiter call, two phone interviews with different hiring managers, a three-hour interview with four people, and then another interview with two people. After all that, Gusto said an offer would come by the end of the week or early next. They sent their benefits, we discussed salary and start date. Then they went quiet for a week and told me they weren't moving forward because of late feedback. It felt like a bait and switch, especially after discussing salary, start date, and benefits. Everyone was nice, but the ending left a bad taste.
- Can you share an instance where you experienced failure in your role?
