First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Guild Mortgage.
Compliance Analyst
I got scouted by a recruiter from Insight Global, and they were super nice. I had two interviews with them, a phone call and a zoom call. I met with two managers from the compliance department and was told I'd hear back in two days. After those two days, I followed up with my recruiter and they wanted to meet again with two other managers. I met with them and everything went well, I felt I got along with everyone. I had four interviews in total but no offer. They mentioned they want employees to stay long-term but there's little chance for promotion in that department.
- Could you list some mortgage compliance regulations and provide an example for one?
Mortgage Loan Officer
The first interview was a casual phone call where they asked about my mortgage experience and for a basic introduction. The second interview was a zoom meeting that focused more on leadership, values, and work ethic.
- Can you tell me about your background in mortgages?
- Describe your leadership capabilities.
- What are your guiding principles?
Loan Officer Assistant
I had an in-person interview that lasted about an hour. The process felt good, and I felt confident about the atmosphere, my knowledge, and being a good fit. It started with the branch manager, then immediately went to an interview with the senior loan officer. They interviewed me separately and kept the vibe relaxed and casual, which I liked. I got an email the next day saying I wasn't selected. The senior MLO said it was because I had the federal NMLS license instead of the state NMLS license he wanted. I recently got a letter from NMLS saying I have 120 days to switch and can still quote Guild rates while doing so. My confusion is that the state license requires a 20-hour course and a test, which I know a lot about. Why would a company want me for 5 years and then reject me over a 20-hour course needed in 4 months? Guild's haste makes me not want to recommend them. In my view, it's either Guild making excuses, or an MLO who isn't patient with the process.
- Can you discuss your knowledge of credit and mortgages?
Transaction Coordinator
The Regional Sales Manager reached out and we had an initial chat at a coffee shop, lasting about 30 minutes and it was very pleasant. Then, a week later, I interviewed with the Branch Manager for another 30-minute chat. A week after that, I had a third interview, this time with both the Branch Manager and the Operations Manager. Everyone was nice and took time to look over my resume before we talked. Guild actually contacted me about this position since I didn't apply. I had to take time off work for each interview. It would have been nice to hear back about the decision, but for now, I'll assume I didn't get the job.
- When approving an application, what factors do you take into account?
