Devops Engineer
So I applied online for a DevOps Engineer role. The process had a recruiter screen, followed by 8 technical rounds. It took over two months to hear back that they weren't moving forward with me, and that was after doing all 8 video interviews. The whole thing was super slow, and I had to chase them for updates after each round, which was pretty annoying. My advice to the hiring team: please don't waste candidates' time! Do your homework on the role and the people you're interviewing.
- Can you explain basic Linux System Internals and commands?
- What do you know about CI/CD?
- What are the basics of Python?
DevOps Engineer
I applied on their website and a week later got an email from HR to schedule a call. The HR rep then called me, talked about the company and role, and said the hiring manager wanted to interview me. I had a phone interview with the hiring manager later that week, which went well. The HR rep then emailed with good news, setting up a 4-hour on-site interview. The on-site was with a great group of people, though I felt the questions were repetitive, suggesting a panel interview might have been more efficient. I felt positive about the experience until I received a rushed, poorly written email the next day saying they weren't moving forward, with no explanation. I asked for more info, and the HR rep said they'd call me the next day, but they didn't. I've got some suggestions for their hiring process, especially for candidates who don't get picked. Be upfront about why someone isn't moving forward, whether it's salary, fit, experience, etc., because feedback helps everyone improve. Also, if you schedule a call, make the call. Treat everyone with respect like they could be an ambassador for your company; I've recommended companies in the past that treated me well even when I wasn't hired.
- If you were a team lead, how would you handle a situation where a team member wasn't contributing their fair share?
DevOps Engineer
The interview process was quick and straight forward. I was initially interview by the in-house recruiter and then the hiring manager a couple days later. The next interview was a round of 3 45 minutes interviews in a row. I was contacted by the recruiter about 1 hour after the last interview and was told that they would be extending an offer. I received the written offer the next day and accepted.
