First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GTS.
Software Engineer
I had a phone screen with the recruiter, then an online assessment, and finally a phone screen with an engineer. The engineer asked me a lot of questions about C++, Java, and multi-threading. It seemed like they were looking for someone with post-grad experience even though I'm a senior.
- Can you explain JVM memory management and its impact on design choices?
Software Developer
First, I took a few standard IKM tests. Then, I had a C++ coding test where I had to implement a simple piece of software. I spent a lot of time on these tests, and only after passing them did they do a short phone screening, after which I was rejected. Usually, the screening happens earlier, and then you either get to an in-house interview or you don't, without wasting too much time. They did explain that they just don't have a role for me and sounded quite open and nice.
- Could you explain basic questions about CPU caching?
- Could you explain basic questions about UDP level networking?
Software Developer
The recruiter set up a call, but they were distracted, walking around and talking to others while I was on the phone. After I spent 7 hours on two coding interviews and a phone screen, I got an automated rejection.
- First programming problem home test was importing spreadsheet of trades and calculating various metrics and data reports.
- Second interview round question was an hour pair coding exercise on one of those cutesy make a function that finds the sum of a list type puzzle problems.
