First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Grove Collaborative.
Director of People Experience
The interview process was one of the best I've had. The recruiter was super helpful and communicative, doing a great job giving a realistic preview of the role. Every leader I met was really kind and driven by purpose. While most questions were behavioral, they asked them conversationally and were happy to answer my questions thoughtfully. It was a world-class experience from beginning to end.

Project Manager
So this interview was super weird and unstructured, totally unlike anything I've experienced before. The initial email said we'd talk about my background and the job details, but that didn't happen at all. My resume wasn't even brought up, and they didn't explain the role. Instead, the HR person just threw technical questions at me, and honestly, they didn't seem to know enough about the topic to really get into it. When I tried to give an example from my work, they were like, 'Oh, that sounds interesting! What happened?!' which was awkward because I couldn't really get into company drama. Then they asked about salary expectations, and I said I couldn't give a number without knowing what the job actually entails. Their response was, 'Well, we don’t really know. It’s going to be what the person makes of it.' So I had no clue how to even think about the compensation. It's a two-way street, right? I need info to show how my skills fit, but I couldn't do that because I had no idea what the job was, and apparently, neither did they! Right as they started to mention some skills they were looking for, they just cut me off saying they had another meeting and told me to email any questions. The whole thing was only 30 minutes, totally technical, with someone who clearly wasn't equipped for the discussion. They didn't even make sure we'd have enough time, and I honestly felt like I'd been through whiplash. It felt like my time wasn't valued, the company is a mess, and they seem clueless about what they actually need.

Content Strategist
The hiring process kicked off a week after I applied and spanned three weeks. I interviewed with the recruiter, the hiring manager, and some leadership team members. Throughout, the team was really good at communicating and keeping things conversational. It felt like a two-way street where I could also ask my questions to get a better feel for the company. You can really gauge a company's culture by how they handle candidates. Coming from some rough interview experiences in this tough job market, Grove's process was smooth, direct, and respectful of my time. My advice for anyone job hunting: the right role will come easily.

Community Manager
The interview process began with a positive phone screening from the initial contact, who was enthusiastic about my background. She indicated she would arrange a 45-minute call with the hiring manager soon. However, after a few days with no follow-up, I sent a thank you note and inquired about scheduling the call, but received no response. A couple of concerns arose during the initial discussion: they mentioned the role was an 'elevated' combination of two positions, which suggested an expectation of increased workload with fewer resources. Furthermore, regarding the salary range, which online sources later confirmed as $60k-$75k, she stated they were targeting $60k-$70k but acknowledged this might be too low. I mentioned my salary expectation was closer to $80k. It's possible this difference in compensation expectations led to the lack of further communication.
