First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Groupon.
Business Development
It was a rigorous, back-to-back interview day, heavily featuring Amazon's STAR methodology (behavioral interviewing). They referenced Amazon a lot, so be ready to discuss data. The interviewers seemed stressed and robotic, which gave me a glimpse into the office culture. I realized it wasn't the right fit for me. While I don't mind tough interviews or not getting the job, the lack of basic human respect was disappointing. My phone screen with the hiring manager lacked context. Most interviewers were aggressive and unhelpful. I never heard back about next steps after spending a full day interviewing for this senior-level role. Very unimpressed.
- Can you share an instance where..
- What would be your strategy for tackling this business challenge?
- What is your understanding of the responsibilities of this role?
Business Developer
First interview with HR for a general introduction. It was a pretty basic but clear and friendly chat. Second interview with the potential N+1, where questions were more focused on the job itself. The interview started 10 minutes late because they were on the phone and seemed busy with other things during part of the interview, apologizing for having to take other important calls, etc. There were some inconsistencies between the info given by HR and by them. They indicated interest in my profile and that I would have a third interview with N+2, but I was never contacted by anyone from the company. Ghosted after taking the time to do 2 interviews with them. Then, a month later, I received a candidate experience survey.
- Could you tell me a bit about yourself?
- What makes you want to work here?
Business Development
The interview process was pretty straightforward. The first stage was at my university during a career fair where Groupon was present. The second stage took place at their headquarters in Chicago, IL. Their office space is really cool and lively, giving off a vibe of a good, collaborative work environment. They want to understand your personality and gauge your work ethic. Since the role involves a significant amount of cold calling, they're keen on knowing how you cope with rejection. If cold calling is something you'd rather avoid, this job might not be the best fit for you.
- Can you share an instance where you had to deal with rejection?
