Investment Analyst
Had a nice chat in the first two rounds, mixing in some technical and behavioral stuff. Then the case study they planned got nixed last second for no reason, and after a month of silence, I found out they gave the job to someone they already knew.
- Can you tell me about your current role?
Manager
We started with a pre-screen, then I had an interview with the hiring manager where we discussed typical situational interview questions. They asked me to describe a situation where I faced conflicting goals and how I managed it. Following that, I interviewed with the regional manager for the final approval.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered competing objectives and describe your approach to resolving them?
- Describe a situation where you failed to meet your goals, explain the reasons, and detail the lessons you took away from it.
Software Engineer
I applied and first did a Hackerrank, which wasn't too difficult and stuff was searchable. Then I talked with a PM and 2 engineers from the team, where they asked a lot of Kotlin trivia. My motivation to continue the interview process was dwindling because they kept asking me questions that could easily be Googled. None of the questions really gauged my expertise as an engineer or showed that working at Group1001 is engaging. I'd only recommend applicants who really love Kotlin to apply here, though I'm not sure if you'll get to work on anything cutting edge with Kotlin.
- What programming languages have you used for coding projects?
- What were your reasons for not using Kotlin in your previous coding experiences?
- In your opinion, what makes Kotlin a superior choice compared to Java?
Quantitative Intern
We'll start with a resume walkthrough, where I'll ask about your previous project experience. We'll cover quantitative hedging with options (dynamic and static hedging), Black-Scholes Equations, options and annuities story, basic finance knowledge, and your reason for applying for the position.
- Can you explain why we've been selling a lot of fixed-index annuities lately?
