The interview process went well. HR reached out for an initial chat and set up a video call with the Art Director. I showed them my portfolio and we talked about some scenario-based questions. After that, I met with people from both the creative and account management teams. The last step was supposed to be an in-person meeting with the head of the office, but I decided not to go forward since I had already accepted another job.

The interview process was pretty simple, with two main stages. After the first interview, there was an editorial assignment to create social copy and write a few paragraphs for clients. The manager who interviewed me was friendly, and so was the HR recruiter (who has since left). Competitive pay was offered.

Behavioral Technical

I had two interviews for a senior editor job at SJR in Toronto. The first was with the hiring managers, and the second was with some of the team members. Things seemed to go okay, they looked engaged, and after the second interview, they asked about my salary expectations. I told them, and then they ghosted me. I waited two weeks, then followed up with the director of people and culture, but heard nothing. I followed up again two weeks later because I saw the job was posted again. Finally, I got a generic email saying they were hiring someone else. It felt like a waste of time after preparing and doing two interviews, only to be ignored for weeks and then get a form response.

Behavioral Technical

The interview started off great with the first interviewer, but then things got really messy with the second one. They couldn't even answer basic questions like "tell me about a challenge you overcame", just saying "we just deal with it". I also got the impression the company has a high turnover rate. The director described the job in a way that made it seem like I'd have to do a lot of stuff outside the main job duties, which is a big red flag for work-life balance. The first part was good, but then it got awkward and I didn't really learn much about the company because it was so disorganized.
