Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Grimshaw-Architects.
Architect
It was a two-stage online interview process. It felt pretty slow, taking about a month from start to finish. I did get an offer, but the salary was lower than what I'm currently making, so I turned it down.
- Can you describe your experience with MicroStation BIM modelling and your technical skills, particularly as they relate to the HS2 project?
Project Architect
The interview was kinda weird. Two people interviewed me. The manager was super rude to me and his coworker, he was mad she was WFH. He didn't even try to understand my experience, just questioned it and put me down. It was really unpleasant. They didn't offer me the job, but I wouldn't have taken it anyway. I heard the project got cancelled.
- Can you detail your prior experience?
- What are your salary expectations?
- What was your specific role within the projects you participated in?
Architectural Designer
I interviewed for their New York office. The first phase, a phone screening, was pretty straightforward. The HR person was really nice, polite, and explained everything clearly, giving me a rundown of the process and following up more than I expected. The second interview also felt easy, and the interviewers had a good vibe. They asked a lot of questions about technical and construction details related to my past projects, which was a bit surprising given the role was for 0-3 years of experience and the job ad didn't mention needing that kind of knowledge. They focused a lot on questions about the clients for the projects I'd worked on, sometimes more than the architecture, design, or my experience, leaving me with little time for my own questions at the end.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Could you detail your role and responsibilities for each drawing and project?
- What can you tell us about technical and construction drawings on your professional projects?
