First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Greystone Technology.
Client Success Manager
So the process basically started with a call from HR. After that, I had another interview with my potential manager and one of the team members. Then, I interviewed with another team member and the CEO. The final step was an interview with several people from different departments. They also had me take a personality test. It took a while, but I liked that they really made an effort to see if I'd be a good fit for the company.
- Could you tell me about your background and experience?
- How do you assess emotional intelligence?
- What would you do if a client was difficult to get in touch with?
IT Technical Engineer
The hiring process for this IT Technical Engineer role at Greystone was really difficult, involving two separate interviews, one in Boulder and one in Denver. I went to both and had a bad feeling at each. The first place didn't feel like a corporate business but more like a small business, offering a job instead of a career. The building was at the end of a cul-de-sac next to a beer business, looking dark and dingy. The interview felt unplanned and rushed, with questions that were a bit off regarding IT networking. The second interview was more about character and interpersonal skills. The interviewer, Mr. Jesse Armstrong, was late, which made me question punctuality. He also seemed judgmental about parenting, asking if I had children and then laughing when I said yes, implying he was against hiring parents. He also mentioned hiring another manager and that there might be a third in-person interview for this $60k job. I'm glad I interviewed to learn about job acceptance and to share advice for job seekers. The IT industry has many opportunities, and IT professionals can find better-paying W2 jobs. My advice is to network and stay connected to increase income. Greystone offered $60k, but I helped a candidate with relevant certs and a BSIT degree find a $90k job. Greystone Technology needs to improve and lead by example.
- Can you explain the DoD8560 Baseline?
- When you can't connect to the internet, what do you check?
Help Desk Support Technician
I got an email the day after I applied and then scheduled a phone interview. It was short, around 17 mins, and mostly about personality fit, not technical stuff. They then wanted an in-person interview. The first one was with an IT Consultant and the Director of managed IT, focusing on technical aptitude and basic networking. Then there was a role-playing exercise to test customer service and troubleshooting. The next day, HR contacted me to set up a second interview. This time it was with the IT Consultant again and the CEO via Skype. This interview was about my principles, past experiences, and my thoughts on the employer/employee relationship. It was a bit intimidating talking to the CEO, but they made it pretty relaxed. Finally, I got a call and then an email with an offer.
- Can you share an instance where you previously experienced failure?
- Could you explain concepts like DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory to someone who isn't tech-savvy?
- What's something surprising about you that we might discover after you've been here for 30 days?
Technical Engineer
I applied and got a call back quickly to schedule an interview. I went in and met with two people, a manager and an engineer. It seemed to go well, so they invited me back for a second interview with the same manager and a different engineer. The interviews were a mix of technical questions and personality checks, like asking about my hobbies. It was pretty relaxed, but I definitely had to show I knew my stuff.
