Development Support Engineer
I had three interviews with Gremlins. First up was the Director of Support, who was keen to hire quickly. Then I spoke with the lead Support Engineer about technical stuff. The last one was with the Talent Acquisition person who first reached out. All three went really well; I felt a good connection with everyone. My technical interview seemed fine, and the lead engineer even cut it short because he was so sure about my skills. The HR chat also went smoothly. I was feeling good and knew there was one more technical interview planned with a Software Engineer. But then... nothing. I followed up twice, but they never got back to me. Total ghosting, which was a bummer because I was really into the job, the team, and the products.
- Can you tell me about your experience with Linux administration?
- How would you handle various support scenarios?
- I'd like to ask you some technical questions related to Linux administration and support.
Software Engineer
So this place was super disorganized, I felt like they were wasting my time lol. Started with the usual stuff - phone screen, then a behavioral interview, then a take-home coding challenge where I had to build an app from scratch, including responsive design, the business logic, and unit tests. Sent it in and then heard nothing for like 1.5 weeks, even after I emailed them. Finally got moved to the next step which was supposed to be multiple rounds of behavioral/technical interviews with four people. BUT, right before, the coordinator told me it was just one person 'cause they were changing things up. So I interviewed with a backend guy, but I'm interviewing for frontend. He didn't even mention my homework or ask technical questions, it was weird. Anyway, it went okay, and they invited me to a final round with execs. Then, 30 mins before that meeting, I got an email saying I was rejected and the meeting was off, no reason given even when I asked. So yeah, zero communication and felt totally strung along.
- How would you bootstrap a React application from scratch?
- How would you implement a responsive UI?
- How would you write unit tests for the application?
Product Marketing Director
First I spoke with an internal recruiter, who was really easy to talk to. They asked me about my background and current work. Before that, I had to fill out a form about why I'm looking, why I want this job, and why I'm interested in the company, which took about 15-20 minutes. After the interview, the experience went downhill. They asked for work samples and kept saying they'd be in touch, making me think a next step was coming in a couple of weeks. My referral contact said feedback was good and they were just finishing up initial calls. Then, a week later, I got a generic email saying the role was filled, with the job title missing, which seemed rushed and unprofessional. The whole thing was poorly communicated and misleading. It was one of the worst experiences in my 15+ year career.
- Can you explain your motivation for seeking this particular role and your interest in our company?
- What specific projects are you currently involved in?
Product Marketing Director
I had a really great interview experience with Yana. Given my 10+ years in B2B SaaS, I was surprised by how curious and warm Yana was. She asked really insightful questions but was also very open to my answers. It was impressive and makes me more interested in the company, showing that good people clearly work here.
- Could you share your background and an elevator pitch?
- What's prompting your departure from your current position?
- What are your future career aspirations?
