First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Greenwich Council.
Legal Assistant
Applied online and then was invited for an in person interview 3 weeks later. The interview panel had 3 people and they asked 12 questions. It felt like the interview was geared towards qualified solicitors due to the high expectations. I didn't get an offer, but my details will be kept for 12 months because I was "appointable".
- Can you tell us about yourself?
- How would you handle a situation where a deadline is approaching, but you haven't received instructions from your client?
Customer Service Advisor
I applied in January and got an email in February for an assessment at Woolwich Centre. On the assessment day, we were split into groups for a role-play scenario presented to everyone. After that, there was a written test, and then we moved on to the interview. They grade you the whole time, so be sure to be social.
- How would you go about improving diversity within a company?
- What do you consider to be the key skills needed for this position?
- Can you give an example of when you've worked as part of a team?
Programmer Support Officer
The Programme Manager and HR Manager interviewed me and asked me 8 questions. I've listed the ones I can recall. Honestly, during the interview, I realized the organization wasn't the right fit for me. The Programme Manager seemed really arrogant when I asked him why he chose the company, and he replied 'they chose me i didn't choose them'. He also kept bringing the conversation back to himself whenever I asked about the culture or his management style. I noticed a lot of red flags, and since I've worked with a boss like that before, I can't go through it again.
- What qualities are crucial for this role?
- Have you handled a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external?
- What interests you about this specific position?
Support
I was invited to interview on April 12th. The process felt like a typical public sector job application. After the ad closed, I got an invitation stating the interview would be about 40 minutes, and there was a pre-interview task also taking about 40 minutes, with no details on what it entailed. On interview day, a staff member met me at reception and we took a very busy elevator up to the 4th or 5th floor. We then had to go back down because the room wasn't ready. This time we took the stairs due to the elevator's frequent use. After more waiting, she returned to get me. The task itself was a simple priority-based one. The interview was standard for council roles, asking for 4-5 examples. I never heard back about the results.
- Can you provide an instance where you were responsible for taking minutes?
