First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Greenspring Media.
Events and Marketing Coordinator
I got in touch with Visit Twin Cities a while back to see if they had any openings. A month or two after that, I heard from Greenspring, who do their publications. After sending my resume and cover letter, I was asked to set up a call with the director. It seemed like a first interview, and it went pretty well. Then, they asked if I'd drive five hours to meet the director. I asked about travel reimbursement, and we decided on a Skype interview instead. I also had to do an online skills test that took about 45 minutes, with timed math and vocabulary questions, plus a personality test. The director postponed my interview but rescheduled it quickly. He had some issues with Skype, so we ended up having a second phone interview, which I thought was good. But then, late that night, he told me I wasn't being considered anymore. I asked for feedback, and he gave some, but it wasn't super clear. It was okay overall, and I felt respected, which was nice.
- Can you state your current employer's mission statement?
- Describe a situation where you received criticism and how you handled it.
Marketing and Events Coordinator
It was a really weird and unorganized interview process. I sent my resume and got an email almost right away to schedule a phone call. Soon after, the manager emailed again to reschedule. I rearranged some things to make the new time work. We had the initial phone interview, talked about the job, and they asked some basic questions about my past work. Then, I was given a wonderlic test and told they'd reach out about a second interview based on my score and if I seemed like a good fit. A few days later, the hiring manager contacted me to set up an in-person interview. We picked a day and time. The day before, I sent an email to confirm, and the manager asked to reschedule again. I was accommodating and agreed to a different day they suggested, asking what time worked best for them. For three days after that, I heard nothing about the position. The day before our rescheduled interview, I finally got an email saying the job was filled. It's strange they kept asking me to change my schedule if they weren't interested. It also seems odd to hire someone without finishing the interviews. It was a frustrating and disappointing experience overall. I really believe in the company's mission and hope they can sort out their HR issues.
- What makes you believe you're a good fit for this position?
Communications Specialist
I had a Zoom chat with Arthur. He asked standard interview questions, but the vibe was off. He kept saying the company is like a "family," but when I brought up remote work, he said it's a "privilege that can be taken away if abused." It felt like he was overstepping. He ended up saying they wouldn't consider me because I couldn't start until June, even though I'd mentioned that twice by email. Seemed like a waste of my time.
- What makes you want to apply for this position?
- Tell me about your background in social media marketing.
Editor
I applied online and then had an in-person interview. The publisher seemed like a nice, positive, and understanding leader, mentioning her management style as servant leadership. However, within two weeks of starting, I discovered my interview experience was misleading. She's actually unpleasant, gossipy, and dishonest during interviews regarding the job details and flexibility.
