First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Greater Manchester Police.
Detective
The interview process was hard and long, lasting 10 months. There were 3 stages to get through, followed by medical and fitness tests. Not much information was provided between stages. I'd advise trying to get as much experience as possible in the environments you'll encounter to help structure your answers for the final interview.
- Tell me about the 3 stages of the OAC.
FCC Compliance Officer
The interview process included assessments and a group discussion that tested typing skills. There was also a test where we had to roleplay as a police officer, and then we had to listen to something on the radio and write a summary.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What motivated your decision to pursue a career as an FCC Compliance Officer?
Call Handler
It was less an interview process and more of an assessment. With over 13 years in the Ambulance Service (5 as a call handler and 8 on front-line road staff), I went through an assessment that was purely based on the scores from 4 tests. There was no actual interview where I could showcase my skills, experience, and examples of handling high-pressure, life-threatening situations. It felt inadequate.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
Operational Support Officer
It was easy going, very relaxed (except for me because I get anxious). Before going into the room the interviewer told me it was mainly a formality because my CV was very impressive and above this role so it was going to be relaxed. Panel of 2, only 1 made questions. It's an average interview but easy only if you prepare yourself with examples and stuff like that.
- Can you tell us why you are interested in this company and this specific position?
- What administrative skills do you possess that are relevant to this role?
- Describe a situation where you successfully resolved a problem, detailing the steps you took.
