First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Greatbatch.
Mechanical Engineer
A technical recruiter from out of state gave me a call for an initial 30-minute phone interview. They asked specific questions about my past employment and how I'd handle situational questions, which felt like standard procedure. The following week, I went in for a face-to-face interview. I met with HR first and expected only salary and benefits questions, but they also delved into my experience and situational responses. The engineers came in afterward to interview me, and they really grilled me again. The second interview was pretty quick, and the staff even gave me a tour of the facility, which was nice. The only downside was waiting over three weeks with no response about the job status. Typically, companies let you know if the position is filled, but Greatbatch didn't.
- Can you share your experience with continuous improvement initiatives?
Systems Analyst
The interview process was pretty straightforward. I had to meet with five different people and got a quick tour of the company. However, this place is HUGE on presentations. They seemed to care more about how you present yourself than what you actually know. You need to dress really sharp for them to even consider you. On my interview day, it was super hot and I didn't have a blazer because I sweat easily, but apparently, that wasn't up to their standards based on what the recruiter told me. One interviewer kept glancing at my outfit and chuckling to himself, which I found really rude – I'm not sure if it was about my clothes or my weight. I was wearing black pants, a tie, and a white button-down shirt. The building was nice, but the vibe felt cold and distant. The interviewers gave off an icy look when they spoke. When I asked about how much of their code was legacy, everyone gave totally different answers, not even close to each other. They also completely misunderstood what I wanted to achieve at the company, which made me think there'd be communication issues. After that, I just lost interest.
- Why did you make the decision to depart from your current job?
- Can you tell me about the proportion of legacy code in your current projects?
Engineer
I applied online and it took about three weeks to hear back. First was a phone interview with HR. It was pretty general. Then a phone interview with the Hiring Manager where they went into more detail about the role. After that, I had an in-person interview where I met one-on-one with three engineers. They asked general technical questions and about personality fit. The next day, I got a phone call with a verbal offer, and we started negotiating the day after that, finishing up three days later.
- Can you tell me about your greatest strength?
- What do you consider your greatest weakness?
- Describe a situation where you had to handle conflict.
Production
The interview process was informative, pleasant, and fair, overall a good experience. We talked a lot about safety, multitasking, learning processes, and being able to work with a small part. Attendance is very important. Also discussed benefits and 401k. They explained what kind of job I would be doing, mentioning the work week is Mon-Fri with weekends off. There are two shutdowns per year, Christmas and Fourth of July, and most holidays are off.
- Can you read blueprints?
